Snow day #2 of the year. That's right. I'm wade awake at 6 am and I have no place to go! The thought of spending the next eight hours of my life in my pajamas watching season two of the Sopranos is extremely tempting. It is, after all, too horrid to drive out there.
What do you do on an unexpected day off?
(Yes, I suppose I will do some laundry).
ps. I hardly ever bring papers home--prefer to work in school--but I do wish I had that huge stack of essays to crack at....but my school is 23 miles away. |

Between last thursday and yesterday (wednesday) I didnt teach at all due to cancellations and snow. Absolutely gleeful to stay at home at last, with nowt better to do than drink pots of tea, make a 4 course Indian thali, read thick books, stare out the windows at the snowy back garden, wrapped up in lovely warm blankets.... |

Or go through your wardrobe and decide which clothes you don't want any more and get them ready to give to a poor family or a charity and put aside any of the stuff that needs tailoring or altering and throw away the stuff that you wouldn't even give to charity. It's kinda refreshing.
(but the Indian thali idea also sounds great) |

Unexpected days off in 6 years amounted to weather phenomena. I wound up either working despite the weather, or reading a book, or watching videos, or surfing the Internet. Not much else to do in inclement weather except laundry. |

Sounds lovely. But we have no concept of cancelling due to weather. Russians have never heard of such a thing. And I only live 15 minutes walk from school. |

Go downstairs to the local DVD guy, buy 4 DVDs, go home and watch them. |

Well, the day is over!
I had fun putting together some collage pages in my visual journal.
Watched some Sopranos.
Ventured out to a local store (in my pj's) and ran into some students (aghast to see me in my pajamas).
Received an unexpected phone call from a friend who was equally delighted to learn I was home and free to chat.
Didn't manage to read any books...but spent tons of quality time on-line chatting with people in 3 different countries, blogging and reading.
Made brownies and a decent dinner.
Will now go pray that tomorrow is a snow day too, as this one was so relaxing. |

In winter, I grab my board and go snowboarding. We have yet to have a snow day, though...
In the off season, I imagine I would watch videos, read, go to an onsen (public bath), have a drink or two with friends, etc., etc.
Oh, and maybe get some lesson planning done.

In Moscow (broken water pipe), went out drinking with the Russian Teachers. In Poland ( landlord did not unlock the building), went out to eat pizza and drink beer with my students ( adults- a very productive lesson). Here at home ( broken water main), went home and took a nap. I wish I was still teaching overseas. |
