I'm planning to just show up in Saigon at the very end of February/beginning of March and start looking for work. Everyone keeps saying that there is an abundance of jobs, but as a female arriving alone and with a limited budget, i'm nervous.
I have a degree in English, a TEFL certificate, and a year's teaching experience in South Korea.
I intend to buy a return flight, just in case i don't get work and need to come home. How long would you all think i should give myself to look?
This might be a strange request, but it's an idea i've had to back myself up a bit ; could anyone who is already there post (or PM) me the names, addresses, phone numbers of your employers? Please? So i can maybe contact them from here and test the waters, or so i can save as much time as possible on arriving there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Very Happy
Thanks.

I can understand how you feel heading to a new place, but really you should just relax because there really is an abundance of teaching work in HCMC, especially for someone with your qualifications.

You'll probably have work in about a week. I did when I came last June. You can contact schools from abroad, but most likely they'll say "contact us when you get here."

Good work from Kent K - check the jobs page on mekongesl.com to get started. Get on their discussion board too.

I'd be in Saigon already but have to hang around N. Ireland for f**king jury duty. Rolling Eyes
My responses so far are easing my mind though. All appreciated.

With your papers and experience in Korea, you won't have any trouble finding work. Even at this time of year, schools are looking for folks. Another plus I think is being female.
