Firstly Hi to everyone. Ive been reading your posts (yes yours) for the past week or so as Ive been gathering as much info as I can prior to my upcoming invasion of Poland.

Right...

The country on the whole sounds brand new (that means pretty good if youre not from Glasgow)- friendly people, not bad schools, tasty beer, and tasty women....

But... there seems to be a big difference in what people say about the dough - whats paid, whats enough to live on etc... (im just back from Korea where I ate out when I wanted and drank pissy Korean beer whenever I felt like it).

Ive been offered 2 jobs - in Zarbze - Southern Poland - both paying about 35-40 PLN (PLN and Zloty are the same right?) and 15 -20 hours per week. So not much more than 2000/month less 700 for flat, 100 bills and the evil taxman (i dont know how evil he is there but Ive got a bad feeling about post communist taxmen).

So, apologies if Im being too specific for you but I read another thread with someone asking for general advice (whats xxxxxxland like) and I felt it was better to be clear! So, I need some advice from you witty inteligent posters - preferably ones who value eating out and boozing !

Cheers, Mattie

Depends on where you are as to how well you live. 700 sounds a bit much for an apartment. As for beer- in a decent bar you will pay anywhere from 3.5 to 6 zlts. The bars I held forth at were around 4zlts. If you were in Krakow or Zakopane- 6ish for 1/2 ltr. Beer in the shops were somewhere around two. I didn't eat out as much as I did in Korea which was every night. Once a week ( usually Fridays ) was it. And it would depend on what I wanted. At a local place, I would pay about 12zlts for a medium pizza and three or so for a 1/2 ltr. There was also this local place were I could get soup, a decent entree and a beer for around 15.

I took home 3000 zlts from the school and an extra 1000 +- from privates. I lived on a 1000, travelled on a 1000, spent 1000 on gifts and saved 1000- and I lived VERY well. However, I was NOT living in Krakow or Warsaw.

Now if you like to ski, Zakopane is the place to go. You can find a decent hotel for around 35zlts per night. And it is only two hours and 8 zlts from Krakow.

Thanks for that. Sounds like I'll have enough to live on - just have to forget the saving, travelling and presents. I'll be nearish to Krakow so info very relevant - cheers.
