Came across this in the Indonesia forum* and thought it might help to lighten the mood on the Turkey forum.

To a state which once had a proposition floated to teach 'rap' as a language, nothing is beyond the pale!

The New California Governor has just announced an agreement whereby
English will be the official language of the state, rather than German
which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, The Terminator's Government conceded that
English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a
5-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Austro-English" (or,
if nobody will be offended, "Austrionics").

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will
make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in
favor of the "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan
have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
troublesome "ph" will be replaced with the "f". This will make words
like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted
to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have
always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the
horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should
go away.

By the 4th yer peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th"
with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining
"ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu
understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

thanks for that, but I've seen it before. I'm surprised you think humour is needed on this forum- maybe you're not reading carefully enough. Check out pretty much any posting from 31 and that should raise a chuckle

Thanks Corall. You're right. I wanted to quote the lyrics as written by Curtis Mayfield, but didn't think it would matter as the offending word was sure to be deleted.

For anyone following this thread, please note that posts have been deleted, so it might not make sense any more.

At least we can be happy in the knowledge that we're keeping Mr. K in a job. And from looking at some of the other forums, he's finally got something worth reading. Embarassed

Here are some novel ideas on the use of punctuation. I'll be checking all responses thoroughly from now on to see if you're encoding your messages with secret punctuation!

Actually, no, he doesnt. He runs the Curtis Mayfield School of Advanced and Applied Linguistics in Erzerum.

by the way, 31, in case you're wondering, 'quoth' means the same as 'spake'
I'm really intrigued about these so-called deleted posts, especially as they seem to concern Curtis Mayfield in some way. Any chance of enlightenment? I had to work at the weekend (at my school of advanced and applied linguistics) and so couldn't really check on things.

I quoted some of the great man's lyrics, it didn't go down too well apparently. Let's just say some new words have been added to the censor's list.

just wondering if he was an advocate for black rights or something to make him such a great man because the quote seemed to be about working with substances Shocked - with a choice word that should never have been allowed on the forum in the first place. i have sense of humour like everyone else but come on...if he is/was such a great man then why would you use that kind of quote to show how great he is/was? it didn't even put him in a good light now that i think about it.

ps - although pman i do like the avatar

http://www.soulwalking.co.uk/Curtis%20Mayfield.html

He was great for music, if not substance abuse. He's the fella who did that lovely tune, Move on up, with that delightful high trill. He is also a renowned (cunning) linguist who has revolutionised language learning in the east of Turkey. Today Erzerum, tomorrow Van, the day after... the world!

The quote was from the song 'pusherman'. Mayfield was neither a drug dealer nor an advocate of drug use, just an urban poet, telling it like it was. The post was posted in response to 31 asking who the pusherman was. I was supplying the answer.

I'll take grief from anyone but don'ts you be dissing Curtis Mayfield none. Remember, if song lyrics could make you do stuff, we'd all be falling in love with everyone we met.

Mayfield fans, please also check out the collected works of Bobby Womack.

i'm not "dissing" him. just asking who he was...you kept saying how great he was and the only evidence which you gave me was a quote which - again - got cut due to offensive language (i'm sorry but being darkskinned i do take it offensively and especially in the context in which it was used)...

if you had put your latest post in response to 31's question we would not be still having this discussion, because that one shows who the man was and what he stood for. that is my point... for goodness sake is this finished yet Shocked

You seem a bit irritable. Are you OK? I know it's first thing in the morning so maybe we all need some coffee to wake us up.

As I indicated in an earlier post, this thread has been torn to shreds by the moderators. This is why it doesn't make much sense, or may appear to be non-linear in terms of the thread. Did you follow Yaramaz's link. I hope so. Maybe you will have learned something about Mayfield, his music and his philosophy.

Where on Earth do you work that means you have to be in an office at 8:00 in the morning?
