some of the schools who've interviewed me say they dont pick up teachers from the nearest airport when they arrive in japan. for most schools in japan is that the exception? or the norm? |

Some do, some don't. The smaller the school, the more chances of yes. Most don't. |

Depends where the nearest airport is too. If it is a long way away then you will have to train or bus it in. Not really a big deal if they give you clear directions. A bus would be better however as they have a great long distance bus system and much much easier to use if you have a lot of luggage which you probably will have. |

I assume Nova, JET, and Aeon would do this. Am I correct in this assumption? |

On the JET program there is a three or four day orientation in Tokyo where new arrivals are met at the airport in a group and then put up in a big hotel in Tokyo for several days. After the orientation they then make their way to their host provinces. Dont forget that JETs are essentially public employees and their travel costs and accomodation on arrival are paid for by the government. NOVA and AEON are private language schools and such costs come out of company budgets. |

I can at least confirm AEON arranges to pick you up at the airport and pays for your travel to the one week training you will have as well as paying for travel up to your school via train, ect after training. |

I'm leaving for NOVA next Wed. According to what they sent me, someone will be there to greet moi, but I think they are making me take the train to my place and walk to find my place. However, they are handling my luggage. |

NOVA met me at the airport, bought my train ticket and escorted me into OCAT, then they had a Japanese staff take me on the train to my neighborhood and walk me to my apartment- she was also nice enough to help me carry my bag! Sometimes they will ask your furture roommate if they can meet you at least at the station near your apartment and walk you to it. |

ECC will only meet you at the airport if you are placed in Nagoya. They didn't meet me in Osaka. My landlord gave me the information to get to the nearest station to my apartment and drove me from the station to the apartment. ECC took care of one luggage and paid for all of my training transportation fare. |

I distinctly remember Peppy Kids Club coming to pick us up in 1999 in Nagoya. That's the easiest airport to get to, except maybe Fukuoka. That company goes all the way to Canada to do job interviews so it's no surprise they'll come to the airport too.
Ohahakehte, are you coming (going??) to Japan now? |

I have no idea, I flew into Kansai. The recruiters didn't say much about it in my interview. |

It's definitely a case by case thing, depending on the circumstances and the school. It just may not be convenient for them to do that depending on where they are located. |
