Well put simply...

It is up to the employer to check that anyone she hires has a valid working visa. It is alos up to her to choose if the applicants are suitable for the said task.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to inorm the Inland Revenue of any income through such activties.

There is a name for this activity. It is called Private Tutoring.

What does it have to do with the EMB? As Chris rightly notes, this is simply a matter of personal legal obligations for the parties involved.

Who in their right mind would do this job for $50 an hour?

I shall attempt to answer Sarooq's question.

There are a number of retired teaches, dependants whom studied Education and langugaes in asian countries, let me see, university graduates in search of experience and some cash.

Whilst the rate of $50 an hour is little to a native teacher, please be aware of the act Mac Donald's pays something like $13 an hour.

There is no need to inerpert the advertisment as a personal insult as it wasn't directed at anyone. It is an open invitation from a mother hoping to improve her daughter's educational standards.

I am sure she will have a number of responces, wether or not they are the most suotable candidates is doubtful. But fo the mothers sake, I wish her sucess in finding someone.

If this is the same "mother" advertising, then, she seems to have increased the wages by $20 per hour.

How much is it to advertise SCMP online?

I'd like to have a Mandarin tutor come babysit me for a few hours, do you think I could get away with paying $70 per hour? I think, myself, on the contrary, the prices I've been quoted are $250 to $300/ph in HK. I have to trave to the mainland to find a tutor for $50/ph.

Hmm my wife is a KGTA she earns about $70 an hour.

I expect she will find someone at that price.

BTW you can't blame a mother for wantign to help her daughter. I am just curious about the mother's job.

Remember Ger, to many HK residents $70 is more than they earn per hour.
