Hamish McSporran IS real. His retirement from his various jobs was announced on the BBC Worldservice a few years ago.
Why do we have to deal with the word "undertaker" at Elementary level? Is it core vocabulary? |

Some countries are obsessed with death. I guess this was aimed at those countries.
Does anyone have any experience of getting something published? I have limited experience, but I can tell you that so many subjects are off limits in our profession that it is impossible not to get a book full of texts which are totally bland.
I thought about writing an 'alternative' corsebook, perhaps 'learn English through porno' or something. I reckon there's a huge market waiting to be filled.

That guy who loves the fall has gotta be real, what with the realistic American use of 'fall'. And how about Brad from Malibu? Isn't everyone from Malibu just like him?
It's true-- all Americans say 'been' like it rhymes with 'seen'. Nice try, Headway.
In the Pre-Int book-- is it just me or are the people in the rock n roll band photos (can't remember the name of the band-- have been off Headway for months) the same ones in the famous couple photo (the couple who are suspiciously akin to David n Victoria Beckham)?
I appreciated the editing of 'Holiday from Hell' from the old Headway Int book to the New-- in the old one, this couple finds an elderly woman with an alcohol problem and a compulsive animal collecting disorder. She lives alone in neglect and filth with OPEN WEEPING SORES on her legs in a house with dangerous wiring, and all they can worry about was their spoiled holiday. Was I the only one bothered by this? At least in New Headway they've edited out the bloody bandages...
And I'll look into the study that the thread was originally about-- just got all upset about Headway again... |

I couldn't believe the one about the man with a wooden leg who took it off in the plane and put it in the overhead locker. Then he stood up suddenly and forgot he didn't have his leg on. The 2 people telling the story were practically wetting themselves laughing at this poor disabled man and his unfortunate accident. And the man who lives in a ladies' loo... |
