I also got the rejection letter. Not a huge deal I guess. I'm getting married to my fiancee (who is Japanese) soon and will have a spouse visa. I really wanted to be placed with JET as I have been planning this for several years. I'm sure I can find another teaching position somewhere out there in Japan. Good luck to everyone getting an interview.

I was complaining earlier in this thread about how I hadn't received even the post card, but the other day I got my interview confirmation in the mail! Smile

Maybe the longer you don't receive a reply the better. I finally heard from JET on january 31 and I didn't even make it to the interview stage. I was pretty surprised that I didn't even get an interview. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm usually not a terrible writer. I felt my essay was passionate. I have no idea why I got turned down. Whats worst is JET simple says try again next year and offers no explainations or advice. Total bummity bum bummer.

I also received the rejection letter with encouragement to try again next year. But I'm not sure I know where I need to improve. I suppose I can take japanese classes at a junior college, but that's not guarantee. I'm applying with Westgate right now. Anyone know about them?

i am a former jet. did one year 03-04. i think i already know the answer, but what is stopping a former jet from reapplying? Is there a database somewhere where you would be flagged and automatically taken out of the pool? Has anyone ever tried to do this?
Also, it seems that the earlham program is pretty similar, except that it is even more inaka then JET.
Is job security for working as a private alt comparable to jet?
anyone hear of this?

After getting the generic rejection letter, I called the JET offices to ask for a reason as to why I was not granted an interview (yeah, I know they ask you not to do that). I'm not usually a petty person, but I cant wait to hear the lame excuse they give when they call back after the interviews are completed sometime next week. My application was SOLID and I had a good idea what they were going to be looking for so I purposely padded those areas. I guess I just feel like they need to be hassled a bit seeing that I spent so long getting this application ready for them. I am being petty, but hey, I just want a little piece of mind I guess.

i started med school back in the states. but i hate it and want to take some time off. japan is the best place i can think of to grow as a person and have new experiences. i would love to keep the job.

You can keep the job! Why not put in an application for 12 months LWOP (Leave WithOut Pay). It's worth a try even if they don't have something like that set-up. You could cite the reason for gaining new experiences that will make you a better person (blah blah blah) for when you come back to resume your studies...
Its always worth a try, you never know until you ask.

I called the "consolate?" in Seattle and received my answer. Regardless of the denial, I was glad not to have waited longer for an answer.
