How do you get Paxil (a prescription drug similar to Prozac) in Japan? How much does it cost for a thirty day supply there? |

It is available here. I think I paid a few thousand yen for 2 weeks. You may have difficult getting it prescribed for longer. You will probably need to have psychiatrist prescribe it and will need to find someone who can translate/speak english. Visits to the psych. will be covered by national health but not most other plans eg travel/expat insurance plans. If you can, you are probably better off getting it sent to you from your home country. Check out the laws on that though.
How long you been on Paxil? There are a lot of people out there pushing for it to be banned. Mine was not a great experience. |

I've been on it for close to four years. I've read about those side affects but never experienced them. Anyway, I am a little hesitant to go off it, right at the beginning of a move to a new country. Maybe later on, but I hope it's not going to be prohibitively expensive. |

I only took this medicine for a month, but that month was great! I stopped taking it because I didnt want to be stuck not being able to continue taking the medicine after arriving in Japan. Mainly because I heard there were complications with taking this medicine and then just suddenly discontining use.
So, has any of you over there been able to get this medicine and have JMA reimburse the costs to you?
thanx |

JMA - you must be a NOva teacher. As a prexisisting condition it isn't covered by JMA. Your only chance would be to say this was the first experience of depression. Even then, I am not sure whether JMA covers physcological problems. There are many things it doesn't cover eg sexual diseases etc |
