I've inquired with IICA and read their white papers. It seems that more people have done the program and have comments, both positive and negative. My question...Is IICA really worth it? Have any of you that have been through the program figured out a better way to teach in Brazil other than through the program? Just wondering... |

I think it's worth it. But as you may have gathered from the various posts it's a bit of a crapshoot, you may get a great placement or you may have some trouble. I was hesitant about not being able to choose my location, living situation, etc. but I am very happy with it. My goal was to be anywhere in Brazil to improve my Portuguese and learn about the culture so I guess for me the location was not so important. Turns out a small town is really better for what I want. And I have flexibility in my living situation.
I don't think there is a better way to work legally in Brazil - short of marrying a Brazilian - but I think some schools will hire you without a worknig visa and you could come on a student visa. but IICA saves you a lot of trouble there. |
