everyone has made me so happy talking about how much they love mexico! it is exactly how i feel and my family and friends think i'm nuts. when i tell my friends i'm moving to mexico one day they look at me like i'm totally weird. so i'm moving to mexico in may of next year and i haven't told my mom or dad yet, i don'tknow how to tell them. i'm going to ITTO in guadalajara and hopefully get a job soon after. but my mom is going to be very disappointed. but this is what i really want to do. it makes me happy to read about mexico but at the same time it saddens me because i want to be there so badly. |
Wow! You're writing my story right here! I told my parents I was thinking about doing the move to teach english in Mexico, and they looked so dissapointed in me. They paid for 4 years of school, and now I have a great job in advertising... but I want to throw it all away in their eyes. My friends think I'm crazy when I talk about how much I want to live there again. I'm sure they talk about my behind my back saying how stupid I must be. But they don't know, they haven't seen Mexico like I have. All they've seen on resorts. I've seen more, and I fell in love with it. I can't even give you one good reason why I'd rather be there than here... I just can't get it out of my mind. So, I'm going to leave my great job, sell my car, sell all my things, move out of my apartment, and leave it all behind and hope that it's the best decision!!! |

well at least you've told your parents, i don't even know how to begin to tell mine. my mom i can deal with, but my dad is another story. he won't understand and i know for a fact he never will understand the reason i want to move to mexico. most of my friends and coworkers have never been to mexico and those who do have only been to the resorts, like you said. the others think of mexico as being this poor dirty country and why in the heck would you want to move somewhere where you won't make money. i try to explain that everything isn't about money, it's the quality of life. in my opinion i see more happy and friendly people there than here. so when are you moving? do you have your celta or tefl already? |

I don't have any of that certification stuff yet. But I'm planning on getting it in August I think. My friends and family and coworkers are the same, they don't understand, and I don't expect them to. All I expect is some respect for my decision, which I'm not getting from many, but I don't care. The money is not important to me either. I make good money here in Toronto, but I'm unhappy. All I do is work work work to pay the bills and I'm not happy with that, I want to enjoy my life. I'm stuck here in Toronto where I grew up, I want to see something new and meet new people! Teaching sounds like fun and it seems to be the best way to travel and make money at the same time. I just need enough to live off of and to travel a little by bus. I lived in Huatulco, Mexico for 6 months at a resort. I was on the entertainment staff so I was working all the time and didn't get to see much of the place I lived in. But I saw enough to know that I need to go back Where are you from? |
