| I was also artistic. Damnit, where's the money in that? Oh and I don't want to be an actor, singer, writer or anything else they mentioned. Bah! |

Trust me, lagger, you don't---been there, done that, made no money (not that I was in it for the money, mind you), ended up being a pain in my a**.
And yet...
I STILL came up artistic!!! Oh, and investigative: "...may prefer working with ideas rather than with people." Whoa, not very good for a TESL career! (damn, NOW what am I going to do?) I guess "you can take the girl out of the music, but you can't take the music out of the girl."

My results were:
SOCIAL, ENTERPRISING and REALISTIC.
As far as TEFL is concerned, I think that any of their groups could apply if you consider the role of the teacher:-
We are leaders, managers, social workers, therapists, judges, artists, clowns, singers, entertainers, conductors, parents, writers, executioners, administrators, controllers etc etc
The more varied our skills, the better we are as teachers. |

#1 Conventional - might suit
Yep, that describes the career I had as a manager in government for 28 years.
#2 Social - might suit
Yep, now I'm a teacher.
#3 Investigative - might suit
Yep, most of my volunteer work has been with libraries.
#4 Enterprising - less likely
Right on again. I tried a home-based business between govt manager and teacher and didn't like it.
#5 Artistic - less likely
These folks have designed a good test so far. I never, ever liked art classes.
#6 Realistic - less likely
That's for sure as far as their interpretation of the word "realistic". Ucky, messy, sweaty stuff is not for me. |

Do they want people who are social enterprising and artistic - I would have thought that the PDs for teaching in China were slanted to conventional and realistic. Investigative I think we should leave out as well.
Should I give up this grand plan?

[quote="Lynn"]http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/surveys/careers/index.shtml
The types of work that might suit my interests were:
- Conventional
- Social
The types that wouldn't suit my interests were:
- Realistic
- Artistic
- Enterprising
Sounds pretty true, but what happened to investigative?

I should be an software engineer according to the test, but it doesn't ask,
Do you enjoy:
a. "Being chained to a desk for 8 hours a day, watched like a hawk and having your work savaged by the ungrateful from time to time?"
b. "Languages, foreign cultures, working with new and interesting people,
plus the ability to do something different every day?"

| I am social/artistic. Not a big surprise. I had kind of hoped that my skill-range might be more broad though... how very limiting! |

I don't think it's your skills rather your interests that the test picks out. You could well be fantastic at lots of things you've never tried before.

WOW!!!
In a nutshell-----I am not suited to my current profession and am best suited for something social like teaching!!!
That's proof enough for me as I am planning to give up my current profession (Pharmacy) and be a low paid but happy EFL teacher this time next year.
Thanks |

| I was also placed in 'artistic'. I guess it is true. If I had done the test a few years ago, I think it would have come up 'social' but now I am much more into me and my creativity than into other people. I'm bored of spending my energy on others and get much more satisfaction from my newly discovered talents of being creative (alone). I think my teaching days are numbered but it has helped me to realise the path I am probably going to take and enjoy afterwards. |
