Hi all,
Looking into returning to, and staying in, Mexico, and wondering what I need to do to get a good job that I'm going to want to stay in. Obviously an MA would come in very handy, and I'm researching my options there, but a lot of jobs I've seen want certification for primary or secondary teaching. How do I get that? I really don't want to return to Oz and do a diploma of education. Is there any way I can get this qualification in Mexico?
Thanks,
Lozwich. |

Maybe you could study at the Normal? I think they specialize in going on strike and vandalism, with optional courses on stinking out the zocalo with human feces and piss.
Go back to you-know-where, I don't think jobs come any easier than that place, at least not in Mexico. |

Right then...this qualifies as the most rude, disgusting post I have read in all the time I have been lurking. Won't you just die if Laz gets a great job and you be stuck in yours? Good chance from what I have heard. Can the profanity bud! |

Yeah, maybe not for general consumption Samantha, but Mike and I actually know each other, and knowing his personality and sense of humour, his post actually made me laugh, and I get his point. But thanks for the well wishes though...
Mike, I don't know if I want to go back to you-know-where. Do you?
Samantha, are you by any chance at IH in Playa del Carmen? If so, what's that like?

I'm glad you cleared that up, because I also thought Mike's response to your post was a bit harsh.
I'm still not sure about Mike's comments regarding the normal school. Which normal school? There are normal schools throughout Mexico. We have an escuela normal superior in the city where I live. Some of my former students have studied there, and some of my current students are studying there now to be English teachers. The thought of them or their teachers doing the destructive and vulgar things in the Zocalo here that Mike alluded to in his post is incomprehensible to me. |

Not that I can speak for him, but I'm guessing he was referring to some protests in the Oaxaca zocalo last year by escuela normal teachers. Don't know the full deal, because I wasn't good enough at Spanish to understand the news very well back then, in fact, didn't even have a tv! But from my (quite shaky) memory, it was perceived that the teachers were protesting when they had no real case to present.

Geez....perhaps he meant to send it as a PM to you then because it was a very strange post to send to the forum readers who are not in the loop. |

Whoops, Go back to you-know-where wasn't meant to sound like it obviously did.
As Lozza knows, the place referred to is (was?) actually a very nice place to work, decent enough pay and very light workload and a peaceful spot.
If you don't get bored or frustrated easily then it is a top job. As lozwich left on good terms, it was a serious suggestion as to where she might find a decent job in Mexico.
I'm just a soul whose intentions are good,
Oh lord, please don't let me be misunderstood.
However I'm not backing down on my comments re the Normales, educate your kids in a Oaxacan school and you'll see what a sorry excuse for teachers many of their graduates are.
And yes, they spend much more effort on striking than educating. And yes I have evidence, talk to some teachers and read the newspapers, especially around election time as your own experiences will be much more valuable to you than mine would be. |

Now I'm offended!!! How many times have I told you, MICHAEL, to stop calling me Lozza?? Sheesh!
And yes, I have considered returning to you-know-where, but also looking for other options. Your comments about the normales in Oaxaca were great, thanks, I'd forgotten about all that hoo-ha, and don't think its something I want to be close to in the future.
Although just now, its snowing like crazy outside, I'm freezing, soggy and miserable, and anywhere in Mexico looks good!
Have a great day,
Lozzi. |

I've never been to Oaxaca, so I have no reason to doubt your word about normal schools or education in that state. However, you have not convinced me that every escuela normal superior or its teachers or its students throughout the country are like what you described in your post. I especially do not believe what you stated applies very accurately to Yucatan. |

Ben, I'm sure you are far better informed on the state of Normales in Yucatan than I will ever be. Just speaking from my own experience and from opinions voiced by people with whom I discussed the matter, admittedly only in Oaxaca and DF. Although around the 2000 election time the DF was flooded with dirty unwashed teachers from various states, I don't recall if the Yucatan seccion was presente.
About the name, very sorry Mz Lozwich, ma'm, it won't happen again. At least not in the following 24 hours, LOL. |

There is HUGE difference between educational systems and their teachers in Oaxaca and Yucatan. Yucatan leads by far... |

Hiyas,
I think the thing I meant is the Constancia de Teacher's Diploma. What's that then? And how and where do I get me one?
Thanks!
