Has anybody heard of "Your Home Abroad" recruitment? They are an Australian company. I am hoping to teach in China later in the year, and although I know most people who post on this forum say to steer clear of recruiters, I want to know I'll have some support when I get there.

Alternatively, does anyone know of any reputable recruiters (they can't ALL be corrupt) or support centres in Shandong?

Really though, regardless of what any recruiters may say, once you're here you're on your own, if you haven't the confidence to accept that, maybe you should reconsider. The good news is, it won't kill you and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
As Nike says, just do it, and don't expect support from recruiters, once they've got their money and you're on the 'plane they've lost interest in you.
In my non teaching experience Shandong is an O.K. place. (And the weed grows wild there)

I knew I shouldn't have written "support centres". I just didn't know how else to put it. But I guess even an embassy wouldn't help me much. Looks like I'm just gonna have to jump in head first like the rest of you did then, and get wet. At least I'm dragging a friend along with me (I just hope she can swim Smile

I've met Andrew, one of the owners of Your home abroad, and spoken briefly to Lisa, the other partner. They're really good folks and they don't specialize in recruiting.

They mainly help Chinese students get to Australia and take care of them once they get there with host families, visa, culture shock..... I'm sure they show the same dedication to the teachers they deal with.

Andrew's been in China for a number of years now first as a student in Beijing and then a teacher in Shanghai where they have their main office in China.

Actually, some of you foreign job hunters get so corrupted by China, you end up being "support centres" for English-underachieving Chinese "students" wanting to "study aborad".
NOt a joke -n I know this is happening!
