Hello there. I am currently in Seoul, South Korea teaching at LG, Samsung, and POSCO (CEOS). I have my BED Secondary with a major in English and TESL and Small Business Management. I was just in Hong Kong on Holiday and fell in love with the place. Good food, nice weather, upbeat night life and a great time for a single teacher Cool I want to know what type of renumeration I could get in Hong Kong. I am currently earning approximately 32,000 HK dollars a month and am wondering if this is possible in Hong Kong. I have student loans to pay off and have gotten fairly used to a comfortable lifestyle here in Seoul but am wanting to possibly move in September. Any informative information is appreciated! I would deffinitely consider a high school contract or working at a company as an in-house Business English teacher.

Thank-you.

Hi,

You could but you'd be lucky.
Standard companies who can give you a working visa such as Ready To Learn pay 14000 a month. Berlitz can give you a visa and around 25000 but the hours are heavy for that (contact Deidriem@berlitz).
Some established private teachers make up to 500 HK per hour but I never personally got more than 250 for privates and the students can be very fickle indeed and you can end up spending 3 hours in travel for every one contact hour.

HK does love a hustler though so finding work with a small group of business people is always a possibility. The general standard of english is high and the language is quite widely spoken so take that into account.

The way forward for you to maintain parity is to get a gig with the NET scheme, you can virtually pay all your living expenses out of the housing allowance.
