Without any prior teaching experience and only the basic TEFL certification, would it be naive of me to go to Mexico looking for a job in March? I'd like to be somewhere on the west coast, preferably not in a big tourist city, maybe somewhere like Zihuatenejo. I realise some seaons are better than others, so would I be shooting myself in the foot to go in the spring?

You would be shooting yourself in the foot yes, sorry to say.

Easter falls in March this year...so you will see a lot of holidaymakers in Guerrero when you go. Also, there is little by way of teaching work on the west coast. Puerto Vallarta may offer some positions but you will be spending all that you earn on accommodations.

Apirl would be a bit better, and an interior city would offer better opportunities.

In the part of the country where I am, most of July and August -- June to some extent, too -- are summer vacation months. Most schools get back into the swing of things near the end of August or the first part of September around here. I think it may vary somewhat depending on which area of the country.
