I totaly agree, teaching English is not rocket science. If it were, they would call it "rocket science".

Degrees arent everything. I know many people with degrees that are not very intelligent and people without them whom are very intelligent. Many people have degrees that are not worth the paper they are written on. Some A.A. programs are a lot better than some University's B.A. programs. It depends a lot on the person and their institution. I find people who have went to no name Universities or Local Colleges to be a but more egotistical when it comes to trying to cut another down on their education level. Being a graduate of Vanderbilt University, one of the top rated schools in North America, I can proudly say I would have no problem working with a competent coworker holding only a A.A. degree.

Arrogance and Ignorance is a lethal combination...... Maybe they should start having Ignorance scores for American University entrance requirements instead of the SAT..... ...... ....

AA degree hmmm... there's 12 steps, right? then you get a degree.

I only have an AA as well, although I'm looking for a good online university which offers a credible BA. Then I'm thinking of a TEFOL course. I don't have to work at all, I just want to have some fun and do something interesting. I already teach in HK and on my own terms and the kids and their parents are very happy with me...I enjoy it so much, it's not really about money.

But I want to try new places and so I have to get that degree Evil or Very Mad

I would like to chat with those teaching in Japan, China, and Korea, as well as those who know of a good online 4 year degree.

Besides qualifications, teaching is all about 'heart' and 'effort'. This is something that BEd/BA/BS can't offer. I've a teacher here who has just finished PGCE and she SUCKS big time. the students hate her and they often complaints in public.

Of course, in HK, a bachelor degree is an 'entry requirement', something that comes before the attitude in teaching.

I'm teaching A.A/ HD programme in HK now and I find the students have better attitudes than university students. they are wiling to work hard and quite humble. it's all about character! hats off to EVERYONE pursuing post-secondary education.
