I did most of my credit hours at Southern Illinois University. After that I transfered my credits to a British University and completed the program online. Both universities required a practicum for completion. I did the practicum at the SIU. It is quite easy considering they are a lot of foreign students enrolled. I ended up teaching test taking skills to students taking an english placement test for TOFEL classes.

MA in TESOL
University of Northern Iowa
Cedar Falls, IA

I did two practicums, each for 9 weeks: 1) university's Culture & Intensive English Program and 2) public middle school in a school district where I'd been teaching high school English / language arts for 15 years before taking a leave of absence to attend grad school full-time. Looking back on it now, what would I have done differently? I probably wouldn't have taken the extra courses and extra practicum to get state certification for ESL K-12.

University of Portsmouth, England.

We taught multi cultural groups as part of the curse, and we also had to pick up a private student each - and show lesson plans etc. I was given an au-pair from the Czech Republic.

Excellent course, very comprehensive, would recommend it!

NOT FAIR! I had to send off the tops from 12 Frosties boxes to get mine. And I had to write in no more than 14 words, "why I want a TEFL certificate".

Don't have one, don't need one, and don't want one.
A BA and graduate work at S. Ill. U. has worked just fine for me.

Did mine in Coventry UK, but we had to do our own laundry.

Colchester Essex. Had been doing this gig around 9 years prior to getting it. Still worth it though.

I did mine at the British Council in Kuala Lumpur back in 1993 when it was CTEFLA, not the CELTA. Same thing I guess.

Pan Pacific International English College, Victoria B.C. Canada

I found much of the course work to be useless, but the week long practicum was solid gold.
