Are you aware of the recent deaths caused by Raki contaminated with ethanol? It's been in the news recently.

That's why you should drink beer. We can always tell when someone's been adding pure alcohol to our bevvies, right chaps?

Ethanol is not toxic and is the pure form of alcohol which we drink Very Happy . We used to 'obtain' ethanol from the university stores. Above 95% it is contaminated with benzene to remove water. We used the 'pure' ethanol. Told stores it had to be benzene free to clean the lenses in the electron microscope (pure scam as an electron microscope does not have physical lenses). We then diluted it with water and enjoyed.

Methanol is what is often used to cut cheap booze Mad . It is extremely toxic and can cause blindness and liver damage when not enough is imbibed to cause death.

How much ethanol could a person drink? I'm not having a laugh, but you did state that it's non-toxic. You you get totally bladdered on the stuff and have no after-effects?

You'll probably be able to get an answer on the Saudi forum. But your post might get deleted as of course alcohol is illegal in KSA and no one drinks there

Alcohol is alcohol is alcohol Exclamation . If you drink enough of anything including pure water, it will kill you. You can drink for an evening, get sloshed and not have the same hangover you would with whiskey or rum. Vodka has less fusil oils than whiskey or rum.

Ethanol does not contain fusil oils which is what causes the hangover. Fusil oils are naturally ocurring alcohols (greater than 2-carbon chain alcohols) produced in the fermentation process and the curing in the oak barrels. One of the metabolic bi-products of the fusil oils is an aldehyde ie formaldehyde which by the way they use to 'pickle' biological samples (like the frogs you had to disect in high school). The breakdown of alcohol in the body requires water to complete the chemical reaction hence you are thirsty after a drinking session.
