Hello everyone, from Argentina Very Happy
I would like to know if there is some "respectable" online course for teachers of English that you can recommend me.
I might sound demanding, though, but we, south americans, cant afford a 3400 euros online course! that sounds even funny! Laughing Impossible to afford! So, do you know of any other that is more affordable? Question
Thanks in advance! Wink

Marcela, what kind of qualification are you seeking? A basic certification (on-site or on line) can be had for 1,000 EU or less. An actual degree, diploma, or MA, etc... will obviously cost much more. Please give more info!
However, online courses are not the best, because they include no supervised teaching practice. Many employers are aware of this.

If you can clarify your situation and goals more clearly, you'll get more useful information. Do you want to teach in Argentina? Where? What is your background?

Hello Spiral, Very Happy
I am argentine and I live in Argentina. I am a teacher of English, and I am not trying to get a Master degree, I know it would be impossible in terms of money. What I'm saying is a course like those I saw people mention here a lot, Celta, Delta, etc, but they are not available online. I saw some others, but they are unaffordable. Sad I think some institutions or universities, should think of providing online courses for teachers who can't afford their normal prices. Let me say it again, I am not so demanding, I just want to take a course for myself mainly, and to put myself to study. Shocked
I hope you can give some advice. Thanks in advance! Very Happy

What is 3400 Euros? I can't believe that a TEFL course would charge that much. A CELTA is about half that amount.

Marcela, you can probably get an online course for less than $1,000 Canadian or US. But it's not that useful, because there is no supervised teaching practice, and those certifications are not usually recognized by reputable schools. Why waste time and money on a certification that will not enhance your CV?
If you could possibly travel to some location for 5 or 6 weeks, (Mexico? - I know you are locationally challenged, down there in beautiful Argentina, in terms of cheap travel), you'd find on-site programs that would give you a real foundation in second language teaching. I know you'd be facing travel expenses, but lodgings are often handled by the training school, and those costs can be minimal. Have you tried a search for on-site courses offered in South America? Or perhaps you could get a cheap flight to Spain or another European location? There are many reputable 30-day training programmes offered, that really give an excellent basis for L2 teaching.

I do hope you'll be able to find something that will work for you!

Hello Spiral, Very Happy
thanks so much for your advices!but I am afraid travelling to Spain, for example , would be completely unaffordable. Mexico would not be so expensive to live in, but the plane ticket is what makes it unaffordable. For us, Latin americans, things in dollars are very expensive.
Anyway, I got an online course from a place in BA in Argentina, it's a lot cheaper and the government of my province gives to that certificate good credits, so I enrolled there Very Happy
Thanks for the reply, anyway!! Wink
