Does anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative to the Japanese national health coverage, and also, not coverage from your home country?

Go to JapanToday and read what someone is saying about Global (in the Work forum, section on Teaching). It's quite a long thread, but plenty of details on Global. You'll have to be the judge of whether it's better than national health insurance, of course.

You would have to enrolled in Shakai Hoken (employee's health and pension insurace).....Kokumin Kenko Hoken doesn't offer sick day benefits because it is generally for the self employed, unemployed, retired.
If you are enrolled in Shakai Hoken ask your employer for the form or go to the Shakai Hoken Office in your area. |
