I was wondering if there is a good way to determine whether a job posting is legitimate. I know most of them are probably great, but I found one on a different website that specified "blonde females under 30." Hmmm--I obviously didn't respond to that one, but now I'm a little hesitant about all postings that want pictures. Art there any certifications that the schools should have to let me know that they aren't some kipnapping ring? I realize that I'm maybe being excessively cautious, but just want to be sure.

Posting a pic with your resume is stanndard, in fact the pic is probably the most important thing you will post. Speak English, look white enough, you in.

The best control regarding a 'bad job' is to talk to someone who is teaching there now, AND is not the person you are going to replace AND ask if their boss is listening to their responses AND get their private email to double check everything.

Good Luck.

For schools in Taiwan and China there is a web site.

http://buxiban.com/

This is a list of blacklisted schools. You can also get a better sense about a school based on how much relevant information they give in the ad. Hours/week, age of students, pay, housing provided or not, ARC processing, health insurance, ect. If they use a lot of their ad space making the school or job look good this a subtle tip there mey be something they want to hide. This is not always true. Like you said, most of the jobs are legit.

By the way, blonde under 30 is the trend in Asia. Especially Taiwan.

Posting pictures is standard. Most schools are looking for someone white. I personally find Asia a racist country.

Take your time finding a job. Be selective.

Asia isn't a country. There are countries in Asia for example Taiwan.

It's a bit of a give-away when the school has a yahoo or hotmail email address.

I don't agree. Not every school has a webpage. There are smaller towns in Mexico where they only work locally, so there's no need for anything more than local advertising. Then again, such schools don't usually look on the net for teachers.

In Mexico, yahoo and hotmail are not only the most common email addies, they are also two of the three most visited sites, terra.com.mx being the other.

What continent doesn't have racism in it? I imagine that there are even some racists in Antarctica.

Pengins are Antarctic: http://www.penguins.cl/penguins-region.htm

In the northern hemisphere, they have puffins instead.

Isn't this relevant? Very Happy

Anytime you look for an overseas job, you are to a certain extent gambling. Horror stories are endless on dave's. The best thing to do is this: make sure you have a return ticket and some emergency money; never give your passport to anyone. If things fall apart, you're outta there faster than the DOS can blink their eyes.
