Hi,
This is, I think, my first post to an ESL Cafe forum, although I have been observing for a few weeks now. I am an MA TESOL candidate in Nevada, planning on spring break in Taipei 3/26-4/3/2005. Besides looking forward to night markets, Yang Ming Shan, and opportunities to practice Mandarin, I am hoping to gain some information as to what teaching is like in Taiwan. It would be wonderful to meet English teachers or language-school administrators while I am visiting, for informational interviews. If possible, I would like to arrange a 6-month contract starting in the summer, taking my fall semester off from graduate studies to gain work experience as an English teacher.
I am a native American English speaker, with an undergraduate degree in radio-television and work experience in software engineering. Just turned 41, which hopefully doesn't make me too old to be a laoshi. Is it appropriate to just visit language schools during business hours?
Thanks for any information you can provide. Very excited to be visiting a country that has fascinated me for many years!
