Are the Japanese as good at speaking English as they were 25 - 30 years ago? Have levels increased?
Or is the level of English declining? |

I think that over time we will see higher levels of English in Japan, due to the number of kids now getting extra exposure to English through children's eikaiwa and so on. However, the overall level will remain low, due to the lack of need for most Japanese to know English for their daily life and the fact that some Japanese (like people of other nationalities as well) refuse to learn another language out of racism or xenophobia.
Is the level declining now? Probably not. Is it getting any better at the moment? Probably not. |
