i didnt mean you said it.....i ll tell you what ..some people are mad about cleaning in Turkey...really obsessed ....washing money or keys everyday....lololo

about bath...at home we can have a bath ....i go to bath house(hamam) once in two months....

Many things could be inferred from 'big!?!?!?!' faustino 1) since this is Dave's, I may have used the word incorrectly, 2) the Turkish mafia is actually gargantuan, 3) everyone in Turkey is a member of the mafia - at least those who are cleaning maniacs!

Hi , I am Gadfly`s Turk wife....I want to say somethings about this topic too , especially after i read my husband`s wrong and unfair comments about Turks ....When we move our house 4 mounths ago, i was just worried about our water bill cuz foreigners and Turks bath habbits and style is diffrent....My father has shower everyday too....and i know many Turks that have shower everyday .....but yess most of Turks don`t have bath everyday include me ....i have bath three times in a week in winters but have shower more often in summers....

Yess he has bath everyday but i clean bathtube with soup and i am sure he would never remember to clean bathtube with soup if i don`t do this ....i know because he even forget to clean the toulet after he poop a few times and i was shocked aswell....

He also said Turks smell bad in buses when i was in Toronto people don`t smell in bus etc ....I don`T think so there are 100 people enter buy same times in Canada , especially in summers.... cuz almost everybody have car there so there is enough places for people in buses...

Ghost is right we even wash then dry our private part of our body after toulet not only use paper to clean there ....

We don`t enter our houses with our shoues , we use " kese "when we have bath , when we clean our houses, we even clean windows glasses that most of foreigner don`t do , i saw this cuz i also lived in germany three years ....especially religious cities like Bursa etc people do 5 times namaz ablution in day , and almost all muslims do body ablution after sex besides have bath and have shower ....

I also found some foreigners very rude ....my husband`s coworker ( that she is from Austrilia ) invited us to her house for party ...and she made fun of Turkish girls and insulted ....i was also suprised this too cuz visitors are holy in my culture and i never insult my visitor in my own house without a serious reason .....

I really didin`t wish to disscuss people `s bath habbits cuz everybody has diffrent culture and i try to respect diffrent cultures aswell but respects must be together not only one side ......so if i hurt anyone`s feeling when i critic foreigners , excuse me ....I could prefer to hide my ideas to myself ......but i am free person that must tell my ideas freely as my husband always told me so ....so i learnt to tell my all ideas freely when i ignore people`s feelings from my husband.....but i got used his comments about Turks cuz he even told me "you Turks stole meals from Greeks "

Hello Wife of Gadfly,

One of the things I love about living in a Muslim culture is the hospitality and openness towards guests - as you have said the 'holiness' of that relationship. Another is the connection of the family, and the way that elders are treated and respected.

Please do not take offense at things written in this forum, it seems to be a place for people of differing mentalities to share ideas, ask questions, and occasionally vent with people who may (or may not) understand their perspective on life in Turkey. None of us would be there/going there if we did not have love for your country and culture.

I know it is a place that diffrent mentalities people discuss or ask questions etc and i found this site very usefull in this point aswell....but some comments like Turks smell badly , not clean or Turks stole meals from Greece etc. are kind of rudeness nearly racisist comments and not true .....i just beleive when people talk about some topics like culturel diffrencess they can be more carefull or polite ....I only told my ideas too .... to tell your idea is diffrent thing to brag your wife with unfair comments is diffrent thing

By the way my name is Banu not wife of gadfly ....i didin`t became member of this site cuz i thought this site for foreigners and Turks must not talk there cuz we may not very objective when we talk about our culture or values etc .... i am a Turk like you and sometimes the comments can become biting but this is how they see us...as we say British are snob or Americans talk alot or French are slow to understand...it is a kind of stereotyping
i use the public transport and cant stand smelly people on the bus...this is a reality....dont you see people spitting on the street ? never seen it anywhere in the world... this is another reality...throwing garbage to the street ,emptying the ashtrays on the streets......being rude while driving....these are the problems to be solved...
when people are writing what they see it is ok but some people on the forum are writing what they hear ...and this makes me sick....i wont let anyone teasing with my values and culture....

i dont agree with what you said about writing on the forum ...this is English teachers forum not an ex-pats....Dmb,yaramaz,Faustino or others might go somewhere or change their way of living....but i will be here and teaching......and writing.......

P.s. didnt mean to hurt anyone...if i did sorry million.....

I stand corrected - well, not really corrected, I never disagreed with the idea that this is an English teacher's forum. It does appear from my short time observing the postings that it is predominantly westerners who are actively participating. I am glad to see that there are many non-native speakers in this area of the forum - I always learn so much about teaching and living in a particular culture from the local teachers!

whynotme - what level(s) do you teach, and what are the particular problems/hurdles that your students have to overcome in learning English? I noticed differences between students who were native Russian speakers versus native Kazak speakers when they studied English and am curious to hear what is easy for your students, and what is difficult? What methods do you use in class to teach?

banu - thanks for your point of view on this topic, i think that sometimes people write without thinking of what they might be saying (myself included) or whos reading, another point of view definitely gives us all something to think about

tg68 - when are you coming into turkey? you're tall -i am sure you have read the warnings on pant (trouser) shopping - make sure you bring enough before you get here!
