I went through a similar experience. About half way through the interview I became so disillusioned at the thought of ever working in a place that recruited people by this method that I actually stopped answering the questions, save for monosyllabic responses. Needless to say, it all worked out in the end for me too.
However, Bilkent has its own methods, and all of the people I know that have escaped are model professionals and a credit to the places they now work in, so it is good for something. |

I have also worked in the FAE program at Bilkent University and have had the experience of working elsewhere. With any position, anywhere, there is always the need to vent a little steam now and then. Bilkent (FAE program) is no different. But I have to disagree with the trashing that's been given.
I worked there from 2001-2003. It was an excellent experience. I learned a great deal about CBI and syllabi design. The students were, for the most part, mature and friendly.
The program demands commitment and long hours of work. But, I enjoyed what I was doing.
I would go back in a flash. |

Why I left, I can say, had nothing to do with my work or feelings about Bilkent.
It's a good program. My courses were interesting and relflected my interests as well as the aims of the program. |

Yes, please do share more deadhero, my interview is Monday morning! I found a summary of a CBI syllabus from Bilkent that looked pretty cool. Would I have to tell them right away if I wanted to do a DELTA or MA there? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! |

Thanks googlebrains, if I get/take a position, I'm sure we will be in some 'foreign teacher-ville' near each other! |

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you. I don't often log on to DavesCafe. By now you've had your interview so any questions you may have had are now past the due date.
How did it go? Will you be joining us?
cheers |

Those aren't voices ... they're echoes of the past ... deadhero temporarily sprang to life to reply to a question that was over 2 years old ... |

Ahhhhhhhh a blast from the past. Back in the days when my answers still had relevance to the question. When my replies were directed at the the OP before the women of Istanbul had made me lose my marbles completely. |
