[Rice Paddy Daddy]

Any idea if I could get a 3 month teaching gig working with adults in Thailand -Chang Mai, Bangkok or even in the south like Hat Yai?

I'm teaching in Taiwan at the moment but have some time off between June and September and was thinking about doing a short teaching/vacation and then coming back to Taiwan.

Not motivated by money here but more for a change of pace and the experience.

To tell you honestly, landing a short-term summer job from abroad will prove to be quite difficult. It is not that there are no jobs available, but employers rather hire from the local "pool" then attempting to deal with someone outside of the country.

There are many many summer positions available in Thailand. However, most of them are about 6 weeks long. Most International schools have a recruiting type of scheme from March 21 until the early part of May. Then they have a 2 week break. Then they have their "normal" summer school for about 3-4 weeks. Then their normal academic year starts in August.

Bilingual programs have a summer program as well, but generally only 4-6 weeks long.

If money is not your motivating factor, you should go to Thailand - book into a low cost hotel. Check-out some internet job boards, and the 2 local English newspapers, and you should have a job (if you have the basic qualifications) inside of about a week.

Finding something that's strictly 3 months in duration may be hard to do. You may be able to line up 2 different jobs that can cover a three month period if your organizational skills are tuned.

There are lots of "summer camps" in the month of April. The pay won't be worth your time, but they're often short of teachers and would be glad to have you. Note that these camps often aren't in Bangkok itself, so if you were trying to get ahold of teaching in Bangkok they wouldn't help much, but if you just wanted to hang out with Thai highschoolers and pretend to teach them English (these camps are often jokes education wise -- but so is most education, especially here in LoS) then you could find something. Almost every school in Thailand has a summer camp of some sort -- from English First to Chulalongkorn University.

Other than that, you're looking at volunteer stuff. Which would actually probably be more rewarding than a summer camp -- Thai wages being what they are compared to what you "do" in Taiwan. I know one guy who does a lot of volunteer work -- I'll ask him about it and send you a PM later.
