Hi!

does anyone know where to find the schedules for the bus and train? I need to travel from Kaohsiung to Taipei and back.

I need to find times and prices,
thanks,
Erin.

You can buy a train schedule at the 7-11 or whatever quickie mart is in the station. Bus schedules are usually posted at the office of the bus company. Not all the bus companies have a schedule you can take home.

I have never been able to figure out the price of train tickets. I just go to the window and let them tell me. When I order my tickets on-line they don't give you the price there either. I really never know until I pick them up.

Take the bus they leave every 10 to 20 minutes, just buy a ticket when you get to the bus station. 800 to 1000NT one way from Taipei to Kaohsiung you and can get a discount of you buy a round trip ticket.
There are numerous luxury bus services to and from all major cities on Taiwan.
They are much more comfortable, just as fast and have a comparable safety record with the train services.
Go to the central train station in Taipei and ask for directions at the tourist information booth (they actually speak English).
The prices for buses and trains are comparable. If you don't mind riding 12 hours in the 3rd class car of the slow, dirty and packed like sardines train, you may be able to save a few hundred NT .
Good luck,
A.
