I don't want to discourage any lunatic who wants to come to Santiago to teach but it's really hard to rent an apartment as I have found out during the last few days. When you come here unless you have plenty of cash you need to get out of your hotel or hostel quickly before it eats up your savings. You need to buy the newspaper El Mercurio or El Rastro to find places but then when you find one after walking through the city and wasting time with a few time wasters you find it's impossible to rent either through an agency and even with a private landlord because they ask for certan guarantees like work contract etc which you probably will not have on arrival. I have eventually solved this problem because the sister of my girlfriend offered to rent the flat in her name for me but without the help of my second family here I would be running out of cash and worried about ever finding a place. My advice is don't come here unless you have a contract because it`s very difficult to rent a place if you don't have one. |
