I am 28 now and getting into the ESL world. I see many positions that do not want people over the age of 35. What do you do in this field once you reach that age?

In the Middle East that's a good age to START teaching efl since many employers value experience. Salaries are high by efl standards and you can continue working there until 60, although sometimes recruitment after 55 is problemmatic.

Really? I don't see many such postings - and those that do say so are usually for two-bit "language schools" in SE Asia.

The solution is to go work somewhere else - there are plenty of EFL jobs out there.

Don't most of them involve financial services for the families of deceased African despots?

Keep teaching and moving up the pay ladder. The only place I have heard that has age limits is Japan. Besides, do you really want to teach kindy after your 20's?

Ignore them and look at other ads.

StephenJones:

I understand that you are in Saudi Arabia.

Given that Idi Amin died there, I suspect you have had much more experience with deceased despots than this bird could even imagine....
