|

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been answered before, but I did a search and couldn't find anything..
Does Colombia generally follow the northern hemisphere semesters or the southern? I know Mexico goes from September-ish to July-ish, but Ecuador goes from February-ish to December, right? Being so close to the equator, how does Colombia work out their schedules?
Specifically, I'm thinking about Cali, or Bogota...
Thanks,
Lozwich. |

All the schools I visited in Medellin ran from Jan/Feb - Dec. As this included private institutes aswell as public schools, i'd assume most places in Colombia would follow the same pattern. |

I'm not sure about the rest of Colombia, but the school year at private colegios along the coast will be starting up in July -as per what I was told during a job interview. I guess it all depends on where and what kind of institute you want to teach at.

Ecuador is much more confused than people realize. There are two school years here: Coast and Sierra(central highlands)
The Sierra school year is similar to the North American one, running from September to June/July.
The Coastal year is more similar to many South American countries, running Jan/Feb- December.
Schools that are not (exactly) in either of these regions have to choose which school year they will follow...using some secret criteria that nobody understands.
If you think this is hard on teachers, you should see the families who actually have to move between regions and school districts. Usually such a move means their children have to repeat a year of school.
