Hi all- I know the topic of the ins and outs of the aeon interview has been covered a million times before, but as far as the mock lesson plan goes, I'm feeling a little stumped. I have my interview in just over a week in NY, and, being a soon-to-be college grad, have absolutely no experience doing anything like this. If anyone could perhaps just offer some ideas, or examples from their own interviews, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot. |

Hi Snooky!
If you do a search on this site for AEON interview...I did give detailed info. If you want a lesson idea, I gave info in a post about ECC, you could search that too.
As I didn't really have teaching experience when I applied I figured doing an easy lesson was probably a good idea.
I chose to do a lesson for absolute beginner's and aimed it at children 4-5 years old.
I chose to do Jungle Animals with flashcards, a poster and little plastic animals, and a variety of games (what's in the bag?, etc.) As music was my major I decided to include the song "In the Jungle" and used it duck-duck-goose style. I prepared a short lesson plan.
The important thing no matter what you do is to have fun, SMILE, and be energetic. You can do a search online for lesson plans and games ideas.
If you choose to do intermediate or advanced....then just try to make it interesting. Including realia is a nice touch but not necessary.
I remember thinking at the time that I should include as many different ways of presenting the material as possible.
Just use the talents you have. I can't draw so I sang. Try to put yourself in the student's shoes. What would you find interesting!
Remember you are applying to teach english conversation not grammar. (although you will be teaching grammar points the focus should be on getting the students talking as much as possible.)
Try to limit how much talking you do. Low TTT (teacher talking time), High STT (Student talking time). And don't make your explanations too verbose.
Relax, you'll do fine. Good luck and let me know how it goes. |
