Could anybody pass on info. about teaching in universities in Poland, specifically about salaries, hours, etc. compared to private language schools? Also, how does one get these jobs? Just show up? Apply from outside? Thanks, Steve |

Hi Steve,
I'm working at a public university in Katowice. How did I find it? Well, through the wife of a friend who worked there. Yes, the best way to find a job at a university is to just show up, although I have seen some advertised in the past on here and other EFL job sites.
The pay is horrendous in state universities (1200PLN (about $300)/month), so that I why I am also working at a private school. However, if you would like to work at a private university (usually translated as "Higher School of..."), you will be paid much more. I worked at one for 1 1/2 years, and honestly, I found that many of the students at these schools don't care much about their studies.
Jobs at private unis are comparable to private schools, at least in pay. Hours are much better for universities than at private schools--I prefer to work only during the day. Full time work for me is 15 hours (45min) a week. Anything over that is paid extra, in a lump sum, in July. Some universities will treat their native speakers in a different way than I am, ie, pay extra hours each month, etc..
Good luck! |
