You'll save US$1000 a month easy on that and still have money left over plus it's in Fukuoka one of the best cities in Japan. Can't lose there Ava. Take it.

Does the contract say when they will pay your one-way airfare? That is, will you get paid upon arrival, or after a year's stay?

Salary is far above normal for any eikaiwa. Is that who you are going to work for, or is it a high school or college?

Hmm, they pay you 30,000 for housing? Good deal ! (Again, I suspect this is not an eikaiwa.)

Key money payment. Is this what they pay, or you pay?

Travel allowance seems a bit low. Don't know how much you need for Fukuoka, though. Here in Sapporo, I pay about 15,000/month.

They pay for shipping your stuff to Japan? Is that what you mean?

Since we can't see the other clauses in the contract, it's hard to make a judgment on it. Overall, from only this information, it looks ok.

Thanks David W and Glenski for your comments. Glad to know there is a potential for savings with this contract. Have either of you been to Fukuoka? If so, what was your impression of the place?

Hmmm. I guess I have to do some more research to see if I want to go there. Hong Kong was fun for a year but the pollution and go-go-go lifestyle is getting to me. I'm from Vancouver, Canada and am used to a more clean, pretty, natural and laid-back kind of city.

Yeah I've been to Fukuoka a number of times and it's my favourite city in Japan. Newsweek Asia voted it the number one city in Asia for 2 years running (1999-2000 I think). It's fairly international, though nothing like Hong Kong. I haven't been to Vancouver but I think it's fair to say that Fukuoka won't be as clean, natural, pretty or laid back as Vancouver. You should like it almost everyone in Japan likes Fukuoka.
