Hello,
Thanks to all of you who have posted such helpful information on this forum.
My girlfriend and I are interested in TEFL in Mexico. Here's our situation:
I'm 38, BS and MBA, 14 years business experience.
She's 35, no degree but 1 year of college, 12 years business experience.
Neither of us has formal teaching experience, but I was a teaching assistant in college and we have both done a couple of volunteer tutoring gigs over the years. We have traveled briefly in Mexico and loved it.
We would like to get a TEFL certificate in Mexico (maybe ITTO or Innovative English), followed by a teaching gig. Our preference is Merida or Guadalajara, but we will be flexible.
For those of you with experience, will we be likely to find jobs? Will we earn enough to cover our expenses, travel a little, and save a little? We have modest tastes, but we do enjoy "cultural" activities (museums, musical performances, etc.). We have no debt to worry about at home.
Opinions and suggestions are welcome. Thank you again. |

Most museums are free on Sundays, so that can help you cut costs. Don't say you have no formal teaching experience, just write up your tutoring time as teaching. You were teaching, so don't undervalue that experience. |

I've been teaching in Merida for almost 10 years. Feel free to email me if you'd like. |
