I'm getting it from a 'Robert Lubeck' Last week it was jonathon bourne. You know it's the famous Ludwig troll from Hong Kong who used to inhabit the China off topic forum. Abusing everyone and everything untill he get's kicked off and comes back under another guise. He's a total whack job, bitter and twisted, lonely little loser of a man with too much time on his hands.

The strange thing is that Robert Lubeck aka Ludwig aka Prawn knows a load more about linguistics and English syntax than anybody else on this forum.

Why he needs to go round insulting, when he can win most arguments without it I don't know.

And here's silly me thinking that knowing something about English syntax and linguistics might be relevant to EFL.

How much knowledge of linguistics did your mother and father have when you were learning to speak?

I'm sure you're exstatic when your Arab students say ANYTHING. If even one of them ever vaguely comprehend the fine differences in meaning between the present perfect simple and present perfect continuous or likes infinitive verses likes -ing it'd be the high point of your career I wager.

Dont confuse your analogies. TEFL isn't brain surgery but a whacko is a whacko wherever you go.

Unfortunately, we're not talking about an individual's contributions to this forum. We're talking about a few cranks who have little else to do but send out spam. Your defense of this kind of thing is unfortunate as well Stephen. You otherwise provide good insights, but you make yourself look foolish on this one.

Personally (and this is just me) I don't see where people get off sending stuff like that to people they never met. I feel bad for people who get mails like that, and also to a certain extent for people who feel they have to send them - it's clearly a massive insecurity in their own lives. I wonder, do they spend their lives cleaning toilets? Were they bullied as children?? We'll probably never know... But even so, they deserve a certain amount of pity, since they can't have fulfilling lives without this type of thing... IMO...

I'm not defending Ludwig's harrassing you or spamming you. I was just remarking that I could never understand why he had to be so aggressive considering how much he did know. In general the 'arseholes are those who know nothing.

My last post was defending the use and relevence of a knowledge of linguistics and syntax, not Ludwigs methods.

There is no defending this sort of person in any way. I'm certain there are any number of mentally-ill scheisskopfs who are well-versed in linguistics and syntax, which one might research by doing a survey of hostels for the criminally insane. Personally, having recieved numerous unsolicited messages from this creep, I would love to take his syntactual acumen and shove it down his throat or up somewhere else. There is such a thing as being too "understanding" and "forgiving". Enough PC. Education or no, he is scum.
Next post, maybe I'll tell you what I REALLY think of him.
There are times when the vermin become a little too obstreperous. This is one.
I have begun by contacting his ISPs with his PC track. The move following this may prove to be interesting. We'll see how long this creep keeps sending obscene spams.
And if I can lose him his job, I will welcome his personal visit. (Posted since I know he's reading this.)

I wonder if perhaps your friends' email addresses have been hijacked then? The latest round of spam smacks suspiciously of chinglish, as so many have described in the China forum.
