Time to learn the metric system. Divide by 2.5.

Women's clothing in the US is rarely sized in inches (except bras), so that won't really give an equivalent size--though she can always get out the measuring tape (might be a good idea, actually).

I know how to use the metric system. That does not mean the sizes make any sense seeing that I am not a man and I don't buy clothes according to my waist size. I found a conversion chart online for J-sizes and other countries' sizes, but it was of no help in this particular instance.

I definitely think Uniqlo is the way to go if you aren't particularly after catwalk fashion the moment it hits the high street. Good clothes at good prices.

I was a little concerned about buying clothes in Japan before I went on holiday, but in actual fact I found it less irritating than buying them in the UK. I'm 6ft, not massive by Western standards, but fairly tall in Japan I suppose. I went into uniqlo to replace my horrible 6 year old rag of a coat, and for 15 ($30 or so) got a decent replacement. 15 is very cheap, and certainly wouldn't have gone far over here.

For the record, this particular branch of Uniqlo was in Nagahama, a fairly small town in Shiga prefecture. I'd imagine that branches in the big cities will be full of great (and cheap) clothes that accomodate western bodies.

Oh, the coat in my size was out of stock (there were other coats in that size that were in stock) so my girlfriend had to order it in for me. I suppose this could be a potential problem.

Haven't been shoe shopping though. At size 12, it should be fun. Sad

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I've found that Japanese clothes are BIGGER than Australian sizes and the majority of clothes stores don't stock "S" sizes, and actually say to me "These are Japanese styles and Japanese sizes". If I can track down a size S tshirt, I find that that fits me just right, though I'm bigger than the average Japanese guy.

I have found the suits to be narrower though. I have to buy a few sizes larger just because the waist size is so thin. Wink
