Just wondering if places sometimes consider applicants w/o CELTA or TEFL certs, but have Masters.... I have seen a few job postings that ask for certs or Masters.

Thanks

If the MA is in a related field, then ideally a school should value it more than a CELTA or other month-long certificate.

Yes, some schools do ask for MAs and not for certificates. My current school is an example.

To teach English in the US, Canada, or at many university-level schools abroad, an MA in a related field is usually required. Most such schools won't even look at a TEFL certificate.

Thanks. I have a MA in English/Linguistics and am looking to teach overseas. Hopefully that will be good enough.

If it's not good enough, then I would question as to why. The only barrier might be experience.

Any employer who prefers CELTA or any month long cert over an M.A. (Even in basket weaving) must have sh*t for brains. But of course, this is very prevelent in the wonderful world of TEFL.
