right or wrong question is not for me to decide. for me to do anything other than what i did in this instance, would be a waste of time. i explained what i explained, and that's it. in fact, the question asked is not even part of my teaching duties, it's in the workbook being taught by their chinese english teacher. they asked me because they didnt believe his/her answer was correct. i only gave them my opinion, after consulting a comprehensive grammar handbook.
my initial answer to them was that their chinese teacher was wrong, you can never use "could + going" together. but i only thought of them in their own isolation, and it sounded ridiculous. however, put together in this particular sentence, this construction made sense. i went back and told the students i was wrong. not a lot of chinese teachers do that...... |
