I taught in Korea for three years, and Thailand for one year.
In Vietnam I have have to all kinds of schools. Language centers, uni., you name it.
I cannot be hired because I don't have a polise report.
I have full references, and original documents and transcripts.
Don't waste your time coming here. |

No idea what you're talking about. I've been offered work by around 7-8 schools in the last month and not one of them has mentioned a "police report", and I've never heard of it either during my 2 yrs here in VN.
Get your facts straight before posting alarmist messages on here. |

FMI Suggest you read the thread:
Police Reports/Criminal Background Checks Needed?
H5N1:
Police reports are the norm in most developed countries. I believe they are necessary to work throughout the EU. Since 9/11 they have become a requirement in many counties. Because Thailand and Korea may not be up to scratch on this matter it is no need to tell people to forget Vietnam.
I find it hard to believe any school wouldn't let someone start working there without a police report. I suggest they just gave you an excuse to get you out of the door. Judging by your modern spelling of the word "police" you sound unemployable. |

So, you are saying that it does exist, and that it is OK to ask for a police report for a teaching job? When a person is in Vietnam and does not/cannot pay 1200 USD to fly back to their home country to get a report just to get a job that pays 10-12 per hour? This answers the question.

I spelled the world as "polise" because the gubberm'nt in Vietnam spies all ALL email. here.
This is why I spelled it the way I did - and you know this. |

I am definitely saying that it is OK to ask for a police report for a foreigner doing any job.
You don't have to fly back home to get the police report. Depends which country you are from, but for most English speaking countries you can apply for these on line. Definitely no need to fly anywhere.
I believe the actual police report is needed for your work permit. I believe the process is as follows:
Company gets you a 6 month business visa.
Should get your work permit within 3 months of starting work. So far don't believe anyone has checked up on these, but in theory you can be deported if you don't have this.
When you try to extend your business visa you won't be able to do so unless you have a work permit.
You are unnecessarily paranoid about government checking emails. |

Since when do you need to fly back home to get a police report.
You can do it by mail or contact your embassy.
FYI all public school and university jobs in Korea require a police report. |

Your true colors are showing again, "Spycatcher."
You're either a director of a school or a "Party Member."
Sad to say, I don't know which is worse.
You make every excuse imaginable for the stupidity that exists in this market. |
