|
|
I'm looking for teaching work in Taoyuan. Where should I look?
I'm already looking at Gloria. Any information on that school? I've spoken to a couple people who say it's a good place. Can I get an Amen?
But what other schools offer a competitive salary (I'm looking at 650+), acceptable hours, and don't totally suck? What places are hiring?
I'm fairly experienced (not in the same class as those who have 10 years, though), have secondary education training at university, a minor in TESOL, and my Chinese is good enough.
With this in mind, I'm looking for advice as I go hunting. |

I worked there for two years. Very easy work and paid cash daily. They will get you an ARC, health insurance and the rest. Head foreign teacher's name is Bill. A great guy and a personal friend. Not the highest pay on the island, but you'll have time to do other things (?) Biggest cram school company in the Taoyuan/ Zhongli area, so plenty of classes. Problem is, you have to work for them several years before you top out at 650 per hour.
I would say EZ's competitor is worth a look (Intense English, on Min An road, I believe). I know you may not personally agree with the ethics of how he opened his school, but the owner has a higher standing among people I've met here. Hear they will pay well, too.
Frobel is reputed to pay high salaries, though not because they pay alot per hour (but they have alot of daytime hours).
David English center on Cheng Gong road is an adult school that will pay quite well. I don't think they can get you an ARC, though. It may be good for part time.
Finally, I now work at a Jordan's (somewhere I swore I'd never work). They will pay 650 for someone who is experienced (as you quite clearly are). Not sure how many locations there are in Taoyuan. Unfortunately, I've hogged all the classes at my branch.
Gram has an outlet in Taoyuan. Not sure about the pay. There are a whole host of others of various sizes. I'm sure you'll get around to see a bunch.
Take it you plan to stay here a while. Happy hunting. |

Thanks. They mentioned bonuses and experience- and only experience teaching English in Taiwan counts. Teaching in other localities won't help you out. Still, worth a go if nothing better is available.

That wouldn't be my first choice for the previously mentioned reasons, but I wouldn't totally rule that out. People do change, and perhaps if they had it to do over they wouldn't have gone that route.

Anyone know where they are located?

Did a demo for them today. They can get me an ARC and pay me competitively, but classes won't start until next month and they'd have to have me working for them for a while before they can apply for my ARC. (Not sure why.)

I'd only want to get suggestions if there is enough work to go around-- I'd hate to take hours away from someone nice enough to give me tips. So if there aren't more branches looking for teachers the thought was nice.

If David English center in Taoyuan can get you ARC, they may be a great pick. I checked them out a couple of years ago and, at that time the Taoyuan branch was not offering ARCs. I remember thinking that they would be a good prospect if they did. The pay they offered was quite good for a adult school.
There is a Frobel, if memory serves near the 青溪 elementary school on 自強 road, think. It's near you know where's new location. |
