I'm planning to move to Thailand in August or September of 2005. I'm having a hard time deciding between TEFL International and Text and Talk for certification. Also, does anyone have any recommendations as to which of their locations is better?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Locations? Or programs? Personally, I'd worry more about content of the program (in which case I am a fan of TnT).

But . . . if you are asking about location - you can't beat Phuket. However, both schools have a shop on Phuket.

Actually on the island though - TnT's is in the thick of things in Patong - while Tefl Int's shop is down a side street in Phuket Town (sadly, now known as Phuket City - just not the same ring to it!).

You can get a good room at a reasonable price just down the street from the TnT shop - won't need to rent a bike - and still be in the heart of Phuket's entertainment district.

TEFL Int'l - their shop is down a side street off Yaorawat (sp?) road between Bangkok Phuket International Hospital and the Merlin Hotel. Not really close to anything.

just my opinion . . . hope you wanted to know about location! Wink

If you are reallt serious about teaching you should do the CAMBRIDGE CELTA. Its the best course i ever did and really teaches you how to teach.

Dont totally agree with that as the CELTA is geared towards teaching adults and the majority of actual teachng in Thailand you will get is kids. But it is a widely known and recognised certificate.

TEFL Int in Thailand and asia is just as recognised so it depends where you want to teach. If its here then no problem.

TEFL Int have a few locations in Thailand. I did mine in Ban Phe ( just opposite Ko Samet ) so work hard through the week and then spend the weekend going to Samet. One of the instructors you get there is Dave Hopkins, a brilliant trainer. Ask anyone at any of the training courses in Thailand and they all know him.

I found it was much better and cheaper in BAn Phe than having to live in expensive Bangkok. Less distractions as well. Remember you are eating at your savings all the time you dont work.

Did any of you guys do the PELT (Practical English Language Teaching) certificate through TEFL International? What did you think of the course? What were the good things about it, and the not so good things?
How were the instructors/tutors?

^ There's a thread about it on ThaiVisa, one person didn't like it, the other did.

Also Phil on Ajarn reviewed it a while ago (although it's supposedly changed somewhat now!).
