Hi all,

Kind of harking to the 'American Spanish' thread, over here in Spain there's a song that's quite popular on the radio, and I was wondering how it was being received in Mexico. I think its supposed to be funny, but its about an American abusing a Mexican, saying things like stay on your side of the river, calling him a swear word swear word beaner and lots more, and the Mexican calling the American a swear word swear word gringo.

I've read the lyrics, and underneath it seems to be more anti US than anti Mexico, but at the same time, given the Spanish attitude to Mexican language and culture, from here it seems a bit offensive. Have you heard it? What do you think of it?

Have a good day,
Lozwich.

It was a really popular song about a year ago. I think the singer is actually from the US, but his dad was some sort of diplomat, so the family settled in Mty. It used to be on the radio constantly.

That's Molotov, and the sonf is Frijolero

It was amusing for a few months here. The video was interestingly animated. Molotov does a lot of Mexican rap and a pretty decent blues impersonation.

"Don't call me gringo you *beep*ing beaner
Stay on your goddamn side of the river
Don't call me
Gringo
You beaner"

People were calling each other frijoleros for awhile here. I think beaner is a California thing.

Ah, I've been aching to find a venue for this quesiton for sometime.

I'm trying to find the artist/title of a Spanish song. I don't know if it's Spanish or Latin American. But all I can say is that it's a slower rock song (it sounds like it has an Am/G/F/E chord progression--like a slowed down version of Stray Cats Strut), the lyrics are kind of rapped in Spanish and the chorus ends with one line in English: "...so I can come around to show him."

Don't know how old it is, but I remember hearing as far back as 1998 (it was played occasionally on the radio in Germany). I know that's not much to go on, but if anyone has any ideas, I would be most grateful. I've been trying to find this one for 6 years.

Muchos Gracias!

Woooooh bingo, I found it! Very Happy That tune I mentioned was actually a track by Molotov...an older one called Gimme The Power. I just started listening to tracks by them on Amazon and eventually came across it.

Ha ha, I love the feeling of finally hunting down a foreign song that's been eluding you for a while.

On a similar note, what are some good Latin American bands that you've all discovered while in country? And what kind of music do they do?

Ahhhh I know the song. I always felt that it sounded a lot like a toned-down Rage Against the Machine.
