|
|
Hello, im a 'newbie' looking into the idea of teaching in Japan or Thailand. I do have a couple questions regarding training.
1. Does anyone have any reviews on either Coventry House International or the International House in Toronto. They are both month-long intensive courses offering TESL Canada approved certification. Are these reputable schools? What is the difference between a Trinity TESL Cert. and a standard TESL cert from Coventry House?? Did either organization assist you in finding a placement? Where you impressed and satisfied by that placement??
2. How does the system work exactly?? Would I be better to get TESL certified in, say, Japan...as opposed to getting it here, then travelling to Japan??
Any help would be great. And one last question....Are there any specific hiring groups in either Thailand or Japan that have been gracious to married couples in finding them work in close proximity to one another??
thanx,
jordan,

Hi Tourin'
You should try the International College of Applied Linguistics based in Ottawa Ontario. Their TESOL course is very good, offered on weekends at a number of locations and the instructors are awesome.
The price is reasonable (I think I paid just over $1200.00 for the cert) and the content was very thorough.
I haven't heard of the 2 schools you speak of in Toronto but assure you you won't be disappointed with ICAL. Look them up, they're likely running a tesol certification somewhere nearby. They do have a website so I'm sure if you google the name it will come up.Good luck.

TESL Canada certification is useful if you have any intention of ever teaching in Canada (or even want to have the option). But if you want to be able to do it in Ontario, you should look into the TESL Ontario certification (the requirements are higher then TESL Canada, and with TESL Ontario certification, you get TESL Canada certification as well- but having TESL Canada does not get you TESL Ontario!).

I believe Tour'n did say Thailand or Japan, not Ontario. Both TESL ONT. or TESOL CA. are sufficient certifications overseas.
Because I did my certification for TESOL with ICALinguistics and really enjoyed their program, I highly recommend them.

Jordan here's the URL I spoke of
www.intlcollegeoflinguistics.com
I know they provide training throughout Ontario. I received mine in Barrie.
