Hi all, I am thinking of returning to Saudi Arabia. When I was there before, I was in Ras Tanura and Al Khobar....This time around it will be either Taif or Jeddah. I tolerated life there fine because I developed a great circle of friends and I had an interesting job....I actually quite enjoyed my two years there....Now, after being back in the US for over three years, I want to return....for money....but also for adventure.
I never had better travel opportunities than I did when living there....
C'mon, I can't save enough here in America to enjoy the trips I enjoyed there...Not as a teacher...
Am I crazy to want to return?
Am I crazy NOT to return???
Are there any expat opportunities for meeting females in Taif ????
Shukran,

Make some contacts at the Al Hada Hospital on the top of the mountain 20 minutes outside of Taif. The place is full of expat nurses looking for "a friend with a car," just to escape their prison-like compound. And, spend your weekends in Jeddah at the Al Bilad Hotel or take diving lessons. You will have lots of female company. It would be even better if you had a place on one of the American compounds, like Lockheed-Martin, if it is still there. My information might be slightly dated. |

Why Miss Cleo, I do like phillipinas, and Irish South African Indian Sri Lankan American English Morocan Lebanese and etc etc.
I don't like mean people trying to blow me up.
Yes, I do hope to SALTS away some money.... but not live like a monk. I have my diving cert. so it will be cool to go for master diver...
Gotta get a job offer first....just wondering how liveable the situation is.
What the facilities are like....I guess any place will have the weight room and ol' swimming pool.
Is there steady transport from Taif to Jeddah or is owning a vehicle a must? Is Jeddah a much more desirable place to live or is it a matter of pros and cons...Thanks.
Cheers,

Taif has great weather. Never too hot or too cold. Even an occasional "snow storm" at the top of the mountain. Actually, more like hail, but everyone there thinks it's snow and runs around taking photos. A very conservative place.
On the other hand, Jeddah is a lot more interesting and liberal, being a port city. Lots of great restaurants and malls in which to kill time. Very nice cornice, too.
Given a choice, I would go to Jeddah and put up with the incredible heat and humidity between March 15 and November 15. More chance of having a social life, too. |
