|

Hi.
I will be studying in Beijing fall 2005 and would like to spend some time living in China this summer. I don't have a particular preference as to where I will be staying and I do not expect to make very much money. I am simply looking for a short term position... that will provide me with a place to stayand weekends off. Maybe a meal stipend?
I'm not looking for a hell of a lot, but I also do not want to arrive in China and find that my program has been terminated, leaving me with nowhere to go for over a month.
I have found various places on the web, but I have no idea of telling whether or not something is legitimate.
Does anyone have an suggestions?
THANKS |

I don't have any experience with this organization, but I've been looking into http://americachinateaching.org
I recently found what seems to be an evenhanded criticism of the program
http://boston.craigslist.org/com/65468627.html
It seems to be ok for someone with very low expectations.
Its a volunteer postion, not a paid position, but the fee seems reasonable because it includes plane fare and places to stay. Theoretically its "all inclusive," but there seems to be occasional problems with various services that are supposed to be included (meals and laundry) |

I, too, am looking at the ACT ad for summer teachers. The most attractive part is the free flight over. I have very low expectations because I've taught in summer sessions as well as at a middle school in China. I've emailed the poster of the negatives/positives and hope to get a reply concerning some other questions I have.
Anyone else know of another summer program providing a flight from the U.S.? |

This group always has a summer program. They're reliable. My friend has worked with them, and they are always posting on Dave's.

This Summer we're going to begin a cooperative project w/Buckland to develop an Intensive Center for learning English/Chinese/TaiChi/I Ching etc. in YangShuo, based upon principles/practices such as those described in the Thread "Promoting Change..." in this China-Job section. The project will be year-round, with great flexibility. There'll be no "classroom teaching," as that tends to raise the "affective filter" and retard many mental capacities useful for language acquisition.
http://www.bucklandgroup.org/sub/profile.htm
Because the place is such a magnet for foreigners, we won't need to be recruiting folks from abroad, except our old friends at www.niylp.org
We prefer folks who've already been in China for some time, who have had experiences in learning foreign languages, and have charisma and kindness.
If interested, PM me. |

I used New Times International to secure my summer position last year and I'm gonna do it again this year.
http://www.teachinchina.cn/summer.php
I didn't actually do their summer camp; my wife and I just took over the job of two teachers that had recently left a school in the south. We earned more than our normal salary and we were on paid vacation from our school... how's that for a double whammy.
