Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has completed their CELTA with ECC in Bangkok in the past? I'm due to take the course in June and would appreciate any feedback that some of you may have.
Cheers

I've also been considering doing a Celta course with ECC and would be glad of feedback.

Fwiw, when I emailed the British Council in BKK for recommendations ECC was the only school to get a mention. ECC is also the one place in Thailand where you can do Celta via http://www.cactustefl.com/ . As Cactus is endorsed by the UK's Guardian newspaper (its "partner") http://education.guardian.co.uk/tefl/courses/0,15087,1305266,00.html, I hoped that also carries weight.

I'd probably go to ECC Phuket and squeeze in some diving.

Wonder what made you choose ECC?

Hi
Decided to go with ECC as it was the only place available to do the CELTA. had initially planned to go with TEFL Int. for the TESOL but changed my mind at the last mo when I realised I could do the CELTA for not that much more cash, despite the lack of accom with ECC. Had heard mixed reports about them though I very much have the attitude of deciding things for myself...guess I'll see when I get there. No point having preconceptions about Thailand's highs and lows whilst sitting in Ireland! What I've gathered so far is they are a good company to do the course with though perhaps not the best to work for, but again...each to their own...everyone's experience is different!
It would be nice though to get some feedback from someone who has completed the course with them....no one out there?? ...anyone??

Why not use the search option to see what people have said here about ECC?

I've just tried and it brings up many posts. While they don't all look relevant there should be a few nuggets.

You could also check out http://www.ajarn.com/ . It has info on just about any aspect of TEFL in Bangkok you can think of.

I gather that quite a few of the people doing the ECC CELTA go on to work outside Thailand (indeed that's one of its main advantages), so you may be asking in the wrong place. Wink

i did the celta in ecc bangkok and really enjoyed it. my main aim was to teach in thailand with it for a year, but since then have also taught in japan. i think its the best course to do considering its globally recognised, and i know that some people on other posts don't necessarily agree with me, but i also think its the benchmark for other courses that are out there.

the work was intensive for a month but i got through it and have got to say that i actually enjoyed it for the most part (other than the initial shock of teaching a class of 12 adults whilst 5 of your colleagues are watching and the teacher trainer!!!)

the core of the students are returnees who come for nearly free english lessons and to generally communicate with english speakers for a while. they know what to expect usually and so kind of help you out.

the trainers (if they're the same now) were helpful and professional with vast experience to draw on.

the people i did the course with were probably the best part though. it was good to make a group of friends in a strange city. all like minded people (well mostly anyway).

i say good luck to you, and i wish i was having my time again.
