Hi,

I'm looking to go to South America for a short period; I'm thinking between 2 and 4 months. I would like to attempt to fund (at least part of) my trip from Toronto to South America and back, with some travelling around South America.

I am hoping to find temporary work teaching somewhere. Is this at all feasible? Does anyone have any ideas? Any short-term programs that may need native speakers?

Seeing as the Latin American market is very poor, should I forget it and spend the rest of my student loan and have some fun?

NK

2 to 4 months is fairly short, and if you wanted to take some of that time for regional travel, I don't think you'll find what you are looking for. It's a big region, so travel would take up a lot of your time if you really want to see the sights.

If you need help spending that student loan, I'd be happy to meet you at a bar in Toronto! Lord knows half my student loans went to an Irish pub in Ottawa.

I am inclined to agree with Guy. South America is an extremely varied continent (I am there at the moment), and 2 to 4 months is a very short time to see very much even if your only agenda is traveling around. I think you should forget about working, and just open yourself to the experience.

Agreed. It usually takes a month or so to find, start, and fill a teaching schedule. I say stay longer! (What are you hurrying back for!?)

But I agree- if two to four months is your absolute limit, break the bank and travel. Working so short term wouldn't be that much fun anyway.

Regards,
Justin
