I advise anyone considering teaching at Futures American Schools in Nasr City and/or Cairo, Egypt to beware of this school! This school, in no stretch of the imagination is anything like an "American School"! My wife (PhD) and I (M.S.) just resigned and left FAS after their multiple breaches of contract, paycheck shortage issues, work visa problems, health insurance problems, being robbed by students at the school, lack of student discipline and the never-ending broken promises (ad nauseum). Anyone who would like to know more about our experiences at FAS and/or Cairo please write me before you consider a contract. |

Hi choctawspirit,
Thanks for the information and sorry you had a bad experience. Unfortunately, this seems to be way too common with so many of these private language schools that spring up regularly around the world. This is why I always advise teachers considering these jobs to be very wary if you have not been able to correspond with either current or past teachers. (or find some messages here on Dave's)
With your degrees, you should be qualified to teach at more legitimate institutions. Be sure to come here and check first next time.

Hello Choctawspirit,
My husband and I worked at Futures in 99/00. We experienced similar difficulties with the school, however we made some really great friends and loved Egypt. Could you possibly tell me if Gamel is still driving a bus for Futures? We loved him so much and are seeking a way to contact him. Any info. would be appreciated. I'd love to compare notes and see what's happening at the school now. My email is [email protected] |

I worked at FAS for two years. In fact I worked with the poster above LOL. Hey Heather and Lincoln! It's Jen.
As far as recommending this school to anybody....I wouldn't. I was fortunate the first year that I worked there that we had a wonderful group of "certified" teachers (for the most part) and we really carried eachother through a lot.
Never in my life have I experienced such chaos and I have way too many stories to share about that place. I am not surprised to hear that FAS is still a mess. Not surprised AT ALL!!!!!
I went to the new website today and see that there are all new people working there LOL.....what does that tell you? (I left there 4 yrs ago). I also see that the salary schedule won't open up either LOL.
I am shocked that this school still finds recruiting agencies that allow them to attend fairs given the corruption and breach of contracts that occur frequently at this school.
All in all, I loved Egypt and wouldn't trade the experience for anything. However, I don't think you could pay me enough to go back and work at FAS. |
