Just for the record, I studied the DELTA last summer with the author of that article (nice chap, incidentally), and I think I ought to say that he wrote that article in a fit of pique when he thought he he'd failed the exam (he passed, by the way, and hasn't made a squeak since). I've heard people poo-pooing "one month certificates" and "diploma-mill" qualifications on this site (and I don't know know if they're including the DELTA in those terms), but I've found employers to hold it in comparatively high regard. |

Delta ...the highest ELT teaching qualification in the world

If that was true,

As for overseas universities, a Delta may make little difference as these institutions often follow the American system, favouring an MA in Tesol. This is despite the fact that these universities will often be employing people for the sole purpose of teaching, not any higher level work. It's true that many masters degrees do now include a teaching component, but the lack of standardisation means they can vary enormously. More alarmingly, many MAs don't actually include any practical teaching component at all. |
Then this wouldn't be. (What the author fails to mention is that many of the university MAs in Applied Linguistics that do not require a practicum may have a prerequesite of an academic-year long ESL teacher training programme which includes an academic-year long practicum) |

An example to support your point:
The university where I got my MA requires at least 2 years of documented teaching experience for acceptance into their MA in TESOL/Linguistics program and requires a 9-week practicum after completion of most of the course work as well. |
